Fearless.
"Fearlessness is not the absence of fear. It's the mastery of fear. It's about getting up one more time than we fall down." ~ Adrianna Huffington
Welcome to Monday.
So, this week I have my friendly receptionist hat on* while Gisele is on vacation. And so far I have:
- been late for work (darn downtown Apopka traffic!)
- fought with the letter folding machine (it won)
- played engineer and taken the machine apart (Debbie! Can you show me how to put this piece back on?)
- witnessed a soda can avalanche (and successfully resisted the temptation to run outside and open one... so hard!)
The best part? I've only been here two and half hours! :D
Don't worry Gisele... the front desk is in capable hands!
*note: this statement does not imply permission to prank call the friendly receptionist :P

Random Weekend Blather
Or: the really long, all-encompassing post of the week. (And blather is just the right word to describe it.)
1) I wonder sometimes how many great works of literature have been lost forever simply because the would-be author of said literature failed to have a notebook handy for those random epiphanous moments where the profound thoughts and perfect words dwell. Seriously.
Like yesterday... somewhere between Mt. Dora and Zellwood, with an overcast sky and Bebo Norman crooning softly in the background about not wanting to "bust up your party / With all of my pain," I had ideas that might have made a pretty good blog post. Not the usual random fluff, but something that was (I thought) somewhat substatntial and could stand as a good article or essay with some streamlining and such. With nothing to jot them down on, I wrote the thing in my head, and I told myself I'd remember it, but that's silly... if you don't commit words to paper, they float away into the Land of Lost Thoughts never to be heard from again. They might pop up for a visit now and then... but they'll never be quite the same.
It's really sad. I might could write the next Great American Novel at all the red lights between here and there. Okay okay... maybe that's exaggerating, but you see where I'm going with this, right?
2) FYE is really, really detrimental to my checkbook. So are bookstores, but today FYE was the problem. All those shiny orange "USED" stickers... and it doesn't help when they have the cheerful "Buy 3 Get 4th Free" sign in prominent view.
But... they were all albums I'd heard and wanted to add to my collection anyway... just not enough to spend 15-20 bucks on. Yes, I know I can find pretty much anything for the cheap online, but you see, it's not the same. I get no thrill out of shopping online... I enjoy making the rounds, sifting through the used bin, and nearly cheering with glee at the discovery of the elusive CD I've been trying to find cheaply for months. It's a thrill-of-the-chase thing.
(And for the really curious... U2/All that You Can't Leave Behind, Jars of Clay/Good Monsters, Coldplay/X&Y, and Copeland/Eat, Sleep, Repeat. All for less than 30 bucks. Go thrifty music lover!)
3) There are way too many big, flowery words in this post. What? Must be the lingering effects of all that caffeine I had today. :P
4) Dance Dance Revolution and a PS2 = quite possibly the most fun you can have without leaving your house
Whoa. That's way too long. Congratulations if you survived. Thank you for reading my blather. :)

A Retraction * Rabid Rocky
A retraction of false information published in last Sunday's edition of Divinest Sense follows:As my new friend Lindsay has informed me, Soular does not make those cool noises with the vintage keyboard. No, my friends, they take it even further and make cool noises with a theremin. I felt quite disappointed that I didn't notice the theremin either.
What is a theremin? Glad you asked.

I would also like to note that it is very disconcerting to pull into your office parking lot and find police cars and officers armed with tasers. Immediately the mind wanders in all kinds of directions, none of which lead to "rabid raccoon."
Yes, a killer rabid raccoon. Apparently, the poor little fuzzy guy was disoriented and running circles in the parking lot, only to eventually climb a tree where police and animal control couldn't catch him. When I left today, he was still sprawled out on the branch. So sad.
All in all, another "Hmm, I should blog this" sort of day. :)

The Many Misadventures...
A few weeks back, I was looking at Between the Trees' tour schedule, and had to do a double take. June 1. A show in my hometown with There for Tomorrow and a bunch of indie bands I'd never heard of.
What? A fun indie rock show about 3 miles from my house instead of Orlando? I'm so there.
So I went on Friday night. It was fun, even though BTT had to cancel. At least There for Tomorrow was as good as I'd been told they were, and Soular, one of said bands I'd never heard of, was pretty neat to watch (the vintage keyboard made sounds I didn't know a keyboard could make...)
But that's not the point of this post... no, there was another very very important event that night...
I locked my keys in the trunk. :D
The moment the lid slammed, my thought progression went very quickly from "Oh, crap." to "Idiot!" to "Hmm, I should blog this." Fortunately... I'd already put my phone in my pocket, the show was only 3 miles from my house instead of Orlando, and I had (in retrospect, wisely) given my mom the spare key when I bought the car, so she was able to come bail me out. ("Hi, Mom. I locked my keys in the trunk." "You what?!?!" "Um, yeah! We'll laugh about it tomorrow?")
So maybe it's not that great of a story, and has happened to pretty much everyone, but I've never even locked keys in the car before, so there you go. Everyone has stupid moments. At least, that's my hope and assumption.
Has anyone else ever done this or something like it? Please tell me a story and make me feel less like an idiot. :)
